The boiler is like your car, it needs a boiler service regular if you don’t service the car,
when you need it most, and it breaks down.
Your boiler is the same.
Let say you have friends that you may not see much coming to stay with you,
the odds of your boiler breaking down, for some reason are very high,
I don’t know why but they are.
Your central heating boiler is much more complex now days
then the earlier boilers, so a summer boiler service is essential.
With a summer boiler service you can find out if your boiler is running at it’s
optimum performance, giving you good value for your money on the gas it uses.
A summer boiler service is all about checking the working parts,
checking the gas rate, making sure the boiler is set up right,
over time these setting can and sometimes do go out of the sink.
Today’s boilers also have a lot of plastic built-in;
I know its sounds strange heat and plastic don’t go together,
that’s another reason why you should have a regular boiler service.
On the earlier Vaillant Eco-Tec boilers every time you carried out a boiler service you had to replace the combustion chamber seal,
which many people did not change.
If the seal was not changed you could have a fire,
I have seen this many times.
What happens is the seal starts to perish around the combustion chamber where the main burner is, this is then not sealed so in
theory flames could pass through the seal, it’s a million to one chance,
but I have seen it happen, and because the boiler has plastic around the seal area, a fire could happen.
I just recently went to a job where the seal had not been changed, and the air intake pipe
within the boiler and the gas valve were melted, as you can
imagine this could have been a big disaster,
the homeowner by chance was home at the time and could smell
burning plastic and swathed everything off just in time.
So you see a boiler service is very important, but not just anyone can carry out a boiler service,
Joe blogs from down the road may be able to do at a cheaper price than a Gas Safe Registered Company
Engineer but by using Joe you may be risking your family’s life. It’s very important that you use a
Registered Gas Safe Engineer for you summer boiler service and any other gas work.
Every Gas Safe Engineer carries a Gas Safe Card with them before they start work on your boiler service ask to see the card, if they refuse or say they have left it at home, then ask them to leave. It’s your right, but the main thing is it’s your life at risk. Once you look at the card, check it’s in date, all gas safe card is renewed every march, no in between, then turn the card over and check to see if they are registered for the type of work you want to be done. Someone can be registered for let’s say gas meters, but it does not mean they can carry out a boiler service. If you have any doubt, go to the gas safe website and carry out further checks. It’s better to be safe 100% and not 95%.
So now while the weather is nice and hot why not book up to have a boiler service carried out. When making your booking try to give the person on the phone as much information as possible about your boiler IE make and model, the boiler age if you know it, any problem you may have been experiencing. Ask them if they have worked on your make of boiler before. All this information helps both you and the service engineer. Also while the engineer is at your property carrying out a boiler service ask them to do a gas tightness test for you, this will establish that your gas pipes are leak free.
